The majority of our freshwater supply in Miami-Dade County is provided by the Biscayne Aquifer.  For their December WE-LAB Challenge, students at E.W.F. Stirrup Elementary researched and learned where their drinking water comes from and how it can be contaminated.  The students also broke out into small groups in order to create model aquifers in clear cups layering sand, dirt and gravel. Then they poured water into the cup demonstrating how it can seep through the porous rock, potentially bringing with it contaminates.
